WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are the life energy of plants. They are aromatic liquids found in many shrubs, flowers, trees, roots and seeds. Now you may think that you can just get it from your garden, but nothing could be further from the truth. Essential oils are usually extracted through a steam distillation process or by compression, making them 100 to 10,000 times more concentrated than the original plant.
The difference between essential and vegetable oils
Vegetable oils, such as olive oil, are obtained from the fattier parts of a plant, such as the nuts, seeds and kernels. That type of oil is therefore usually very fatty. Essential oils, on the other hand, are obtained from roots, bark, flowers, leaves, resin, etc. and are anything but greasy. In the world of essential oils, vegetable oils (olive, coconut, avocado, grape seed, etc.) are referred to as carrier oils because they are often used to dilute the strength of therapeutic class essential oils when applied to the skin.
The effect of essential oils
The chemical structure of essential oils is such that they can quickly penetrate cell membranes, pass through blood and tissue and improve cellular function. So the incredible life force in the oils can reach the brain within 22 seconds, is in the bloodstream within 2 minutes and within 20 minutes every cell in the body has absorbed the essential oil.
What should an essential oil smell like?
Well, exactly according to the type of plant it is made from. This means that some oils don’t smell particularly good. Companies often add all sorts of things to make the oil smell good. However, this affects the quality of the oil to such an extent that it has much less effect, or no effect at all. Even though it is sometimes stated that the oil is 100% pure, this is unfortunately not always the case. Smell the oil to see if it smells too sweet or does not match the smell of the plant at all. The oils from Young Living are guaranteed 100% pure.
How can you work with essential oils?
The oils can do their work on different levels. Both on physical, cognitive, emotional and spiritual level. Each oil has its own qualities and properties on various levels.
